GREETINGS!
It's Sunday evening here in Los Angeles right now, 04 July 2008...! I just closed access to the "ironic" blog topic and now I am writing the next one. You have until Saturday, 12 July 2008, to respond to this posting...good luck!
DRAMATIC IRONY - involves the reader (or audience) knowing something about what's happening in the plot, about which the character(s) have no knowledge; it can be used in comedies and tragedies, and it works to engage the reader, as one is drawn into what is happening; the audience may sympathize with the character, who does not know the true situation, or, the reader may see the character as blind or ignorant.
The clues may be rather obvious, but the character may be unwilling to recognize the truth; when the words and actions of the characters of a work of literature have a different meaning for the reader than they do for the characters; this is the result of the reader having a greater knowledge than the characters themselves.
"Focusing on any scene from this story, what good and clear example of a DRAMATIC IRONY can you give based on the given definition on top? Within the entire story, there are a lot of good examples to support this concept of Dramatic Irony, which is why this posting is going to be, as usual, another "first-come, first serve basis only" posting---this means that once an example has already been given, it cannot be used by anyone else. Please make sure to read the postings first before you put your own blog so that you will not end up wasting your time, okay...?!"
That's All Folks!!! Take care and be safe always. Post your comments below this blog where it says "Post A Comment". STUDY-STUDY-STUDY...but do not neglect to enjoy your vacation as well...! CIAO!!!

George and the other men went to find Lennie and then kill him. The readers and the men knew they were going to shoot Lennie. But, Lennie does not know that they were having this plan, he continued talking to George as usual. After he's shot, he does not know George was the one who had killed him. Everybody except Lennie knew this.

Curley wife always give her eye to the worker. We know that everyone know it, but curley don't knows. He still love his wife and keep his left hand solf.

“I didn’t know you was here, he said disapprovingly; and then he was beside her and- Oh, Jesus Christ!”. This is in Page 93 in the novel. We, readers already have already notice that Curly’s wife is dead but Candy doesn’t know this at all.

Everyone knows that Carlson killed Candy's dog. The dog, who has been killed don't know what would happen when Carlson took him out of the room. We knew that the dog would be killed, everyone knew this, except the old dog.
Lennie always accidently kill the animals. George know the animal dies because of lennie can't control his strengh and squeeze it instead of PETTING it. And Lennie still don't know why they dye.
Everytime when George told Lennie not to get in trouble. But when Lennie faces the temptation (petting soft things), he always forget about what George had remind him.
Before Curley's wife talk to Lennie, she doesn't know that Lennie loves to pet soft things, and of course, she doesn't know that Lennie would kill her when she try to stop Lennie touch her hair.
Also, we know that Curley's wife may be killed by Lennie accidentally, but Curley's wife doesn't know it.

Dramatic Irony:
In OMAM, the workers in the ranch thought that Lennie stoled the pistol of Carlson. However, as a reader, we knew that George is the one who soled it.

When Curley pick a fight with Lennie us reader already knew that Curley won't be able to fight Lennie because of the time when George talked with Carlson that no one should pick a fight with that big guy. We also knew that Lennie can't calculate or controll his own strength. As a result Curley has been badly injured in the arm after the fighting. We all knew that this kind of outcome will happen except Curley himself because Curley sees Lennie as just a big guy that doesn't fight others and also needs George for help all the time.
From the part where Lennie and George's late arrival at the ranch bunkhouse, the boss asked them about their late arrival but George blames it on the bus driver who lied to them about the time estimation to the ranch. When the boss asks them about their skills and previous employment, George speaks for Lennie to prevent the boss from knowing that Lennie has a mental problem. All of above are dramatic ironies because when George lied to the boss, the boss wouldn't know that they were lying but in the book, the text tells us so obviously that they were lying to the boss.

When Lennie kills Curley’s wife, we knew that he would go hide in the bushes where George told him to, so only the two of them know that. The dramatic irony is that, since this information is known only by George, Lennie, and the reader, we would know that Lennie will go hide where George told him to, but the other characters in the book would not know this.

Dramatic Irony:
Lennie have mental problem but he himself does not know.
When George and Lennie were going to the farm tomorrow, I knew that Lennie will talk for sure because he always make trouble, and he did it. He talked to the boss.

Slim has agreed to give one of the pups to Lennie, But he don’t know Lennie can't control his strength; he will kill the pup if Slim give him the pup. Only the reader and George know Lennie can't control his strength he kill animal all the time.
When Lennie go to the farm. I knew that he will make a problem (kill Curley's wife) because Curley does not like him. He also did not know that he will do that, so this is Dramatic Irony.

I truly recommend that everyone please leave one response per person regarding to just one story. Give others chances to answer the question as well since there should not be any overlapping of answers.

George kill Lennie because he loves him and of the friendship among them. What George doesn't know is that the loneliness he'll be without Lennie because he's too used of being and take care of Lennie. For Lennie, he still doesn't knows the reason of why George killed him.

When Lennie touches Curley's wife's hair, we knew that there's going to be a big problem afterward due to Lennie's past actions and troubles.
However, both characters do not know and still enjoy their conversation.
We as reader, can only pray that they too can split up hurrily, and please don't cause any touble so it wouldn't have to end as bad as what the summary at the back of the book told us.

At the biginning of the story, where George and Lennie have just arrived to their new job, they saw Curley's wife. George have told Lennie to NOT get close, or even to talk to Curley. Everyone have notice why, because he would get out of the control and kill Curley. But actually, Lennie dont know, and even asking why can't he get close or talk to Culey's wife.

Jobs were lost because Lenin followed his desire to touch a girl's dress, ending up murdering her. Therefore, regardless how hard George and Lenin dream, their ambition for owning a farm can never be accomplished due to Lenin's mental stupidity and its aftermath. It is obvious to the readers, yet both work hard for this strong belief.

I think that Carlson will kill the dog because Carlson don’t like the dog so he kill it but the old dog didn’t get kill maybe it will happen it next I don’t know yet I will find out.
linnie likes to get in to trouble accidently and he don't know that he will be in trouble.
When George, Lennie, and Candy has plan to make some money, and then go out to get some land to live by their own. Everybody that reads this story except George, Lennie, and Candy they will not get the land until the story ends.
Candy 9B
Lennie like to pet and touch little animals, but because he was very strong, so he always let them die, but he never know that he was the one who kill it. Lennie always don't know why things was happening.
In the begining when George talked to Slim why He and Lennie have to move from the old fram to this farm, George told slim that Lennie cause troble because he touch the women's dress who thought that Lennie would rape her so they ran away. When i readed this, i think that Lennie would do the same think to Curly's wife again because she was the only women in the farm(except Slim's wife). Another reason is because Lennie even forgot the reason why they have to find new job, so he would sure do it again!

At the last George notice that Lennie killed Curley's wife. He went to find Lennie behide the bush. They talk about their dream farms. But Lennie never think about that George killed him by his hand.

When Calson killed the old dog, he tell Candy that "die" would help it not to suffer any more. But the really thing is Calson don't like to dog that much..he hate the smell of the old dog..hate how it so slow. So Calson kill it to get rid of that old dog. Poor old dog that get killed, also Candy does not know how Calson dislike his dog. Calson think that it's for his dog's own good..but really it isn't at all.
The one who not know is:
Candy and his old dog

When Lennie kills Curley's wife and hide in the place where George tell him to. We know Lennie hide there but Curley don't know.
Tommy 9A
We know that George and Lennie want to have their own land but some of the character don't know.
When lennie played Curley's wife hair, Curley's wife didn't know that Lennie would kill her. But Lennie didn't kill her in purpose, Lennie killed her because he wants to play her hair.
We know for a fact that George will come back for Lennie. When Crooks said that if George will not be back to see Lennie, Lennie was very worried. We know that George will come back but the way Lennie acts may present some unwanted doubts in Crooks mind about what he has just said to Lennie.
Pat 8B
One event that happen in the story when Lennie went into Crook's room is also one of an dramatic irony. We all know that Crook is black and no one wanted to socialize with him so he's a kind of isolated guy but Lennie does not know this fact that people in the farm don't like this guy very much. On the other side us reader also knew by reading that Crook's lonely but the characters in the book didn't realize or worst they didn't even care to think.
